In the Midst of Wolves: The Indianapolis Article V Assembly of State Legislators

Wolf-PAC-GOP(INDIANAPOLIS, June 16, 2014) State legislators from across the country converged on Indianapolis last week for the second formal meeting of the Mount Vernon Assembly at the Indiana State House to advance efforts to trigger an Article V “Convention for proposing Amendments” to the U.S. Constitution.

Of the 33 states represented, 22 were reported at the closing ceremony to have been appointed by leadership in their respective state legislatures, although in the opening ceremony, legislators from over 30 states came to the podium to introduce themselves, their respective state delegations, and to announce their appointment by state legislative leadership.

Matthew 10:16

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

North Carolina Reps. Bert Jones and Chris Millis were appointed by Lt. Governor Dan Forest, who also presides over the N.C. Senate in the same fashion that Vice-President Biden presides over the U.S. Senate, making North Carolina’s appointment coming directly from the highest-ranking state government official of any of the 33 states in attendance.

Last month, Jones and Millis, who also attended the Dec. 07, 2013 (Pearl Harbor Day), Mount Vernon Assembly, introduced H.B. 1206 in the N.C. General Assembly calling for a Select Committee to consider whether North Carolina should apply for an Article V “Convention for proposing Amendments” using the virtually “open-convention” Citizens for Self-Governance model Article V application.

In early June, 2014, just days before the Assembly of State Legislatures convened, the N.C House Clerk recorded H.R. 1258, a resolution introduced by N.C. Representatives Brandon, Baskerville, R. Brawley, and Lucas in support of an Article V Convention patterned after a model application prepared and promoted by Wolf-PAC, a super-PAC launched by The Young Turks. H.R. 1258 has been reported to be an actual Article V application, but in reality never gets around to actually “applying.” You can read what its supporters say about the resolution here.

While only six of the state legislators attending the second round of talks were Democrats, all were subjected to pro-Article V literature by Wolf-PAC Executive Director Ryan Clayton, who was there on behalf of its parent, “The Young Turks,” which was founded by Turkish-born Sunni Muslim Cenk Uyger and aired on Current TV, the progressive news organization which was sold to Al Jazeera by former Vice-President Al Gore in January, 2013.

In August, 2013, The Young Turks founder interviewed and debuted Wolf-PAC on Al Jazeera-owned Current TV, shortly before it shut down to revamp the progressive media outlet as Al Jazeera America.

For several years, Al-Jazeera was the main media outlet for Al-Qaeda, the Osama Bin Laden video releases, including publishing a variety of radical cleric propaganda videos lambasting the “infidels” in America.

In case you weren’t aware, Al-Jazeera is based in Qatar, the same country that President Obama recently released five Gitmo Detainees in exchange for a deserter.

The states in attendance at the Indianapolis Mount Vernon Assembly meetings were:

Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, Nebraska*, New Mexico, Ohio, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, Washington, Wisconsin.

Their next scheduled gathering is tentatively to be held in early December, 2014, and although the Georgia Statehouse is the likely location, the final decision hasn’t been made yet.

Last, but not least, to put some of this in context, and allow you to hear “in their own words” what major players in this push to do open-heart surgery on the U.S. Constitution are saying, please watch the following video we’ve prepared to accompany this article:

Salesmen from a wide range of ideologies are bombarding the public, and our public servants with “warm fuzzy” carrots, to garner their support for triggering an Article V Convention. They each tell their respective constituencies what they want to hear, yet the solutions they propose don’t address the root problem: We the People are failing at our duty to be personally engaged with our public servants, and involved in our own governance. If we fall for the special-interest rhetoric, we may very well lose the protections of our God-given Rights the Constitution and Bill of Rights were ordained to guard.

As Thomas Jefferson advised, “The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.”

State Legislatures have all the constitutional authority and power, working in conjunction with an informed public, to rein in out-of-control government. We should honestly and sincerely strive to uphold the Constitution before we go tinkering on it. Were we to do so, we might find that most of our nation’s problems would resolve themselves.
